Bitdefender Threat Scanner Review
Bitdefender Threat Scanner Review

Bitdefender is among the top antivirus scanners for Mac, with consistently excellent rate of detection of malware and many other beneficial security features. However, it's not free of weaknesses.

The default interface is simple to navigate and organizes features into three categories: Privacy, Security and Utilities. The Protection tab focuses on features you would expect from an antivirus suite, like real-time scanning, firewall monitoring and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab outlines ways to stay safe on internet, including an encrypted web browser that runs websites within a sandbox in order to stop malware from infecting your regular browser. And the Utilities tab is a place to find optimization tools and the file shredder, which overwrites files with exclusive algorithms which render them unrecoverable in the event that they are deleted.

Other features are included with premium plans, including a simple password manager, as well as an Anti-Tracker solution that can stop excessive tracking performed by a number of web-based services. It also includes vulnerability scanners that identify outdated applications and passwords that are weak as well as Windows updates that haven't been applied. It also provides a quick custom scan that only takes five minutes, which is much faster than competitors like Norton and TotalAV.

The only downside of the application is that it takes quite a long time to download and is a source of frustration for users who want to get started. The "Reveal in the Finder" feature of the app isn't functional. This is a bizarre omission from an antivirus app that competes with other solutions which can accomplish the same task with just a few clicks.
